Importance of Math Literacy Before this class, I struggled with the idea of teaching reading strategies in my future math classroom. However, because of the textbook, class discussions, outside assignments and further study, I now have a better idea of how to implement math literacy into my classroom on a regular basis. Over the course of the semester, I have watched several videos on my own about the idea of math literacy because it is something I have grown increasingly interested in. This is one I have found that explains an overview of content area literacy, as well as breaks down the definition in the context of math. It focuses on the importance of knowing how to communicate math concepts clearly. Journal Club- Teachers and content area reading

Teachers and content area reading: Attitudes, beliefs, and change This journal was very interesting and gave me many thoughts on teaching reading in the various content areas. It explored the idea of teaching reading in Math, Social Studies, and Science and how pre-service and in-service teachers feel about doing this. While reading this article, I was able to make many connections to my experiences in LLED this semester. This class has been really helpful in shaping my beliefs about teaching reading in the math classroom. I came into this class not wanting or knowing how to teach reading strategies in my future math (or Social Studies) classroom, but I am leaving this class with a desire to take on the challenge of teaching reading strategies to my math students in order to help them solve word problems and read other texts about math concepts. Mathalicious  As a math teacher, I know the question “when am I going to use this?” is going to be asked all the time in my classroom. Thankfully, I found a resource that can help me answer this question by providing students with examples of how we use math in our daily lives. The goal of mathalicious lessons is to “provide teachers with an opportunity to teach standards-based math through real-world topics that students care about” (Mathalicious).  https://www.mathalicious.com/ This website is broken up by grade level, and within each grade level, there are real-world lessons organized by content units. For example, within the 6 th grade section, there is a content section all about operations with fractions and decimals.
