Strategy Lesson Assignment Reflection

Strategy Lesson Assignment Reflection

Overall, I think this lesson went well. There were challenges, including a limited amount of time and classmates that had prior knowledge of the material rather than middle school students. However, overall, I think we planned our lesson well which was evident in our presentation of it. Because of the time restraint, we did not have time for all our students to share what they learned or do a full class discussion as we would do in a normal classroom setting, but I think our classmates understood the goal of our lesson which was to introduce key terms of a unit to students. The clearly printed word on a piece of cardstock will be helpful in having a permanent word wall, but I think taking the suggestions given regarding the use of Velcro instead of tape and laminating the graphic organizer would be helpful. Other things that were proof of our thoughtfulness in creating this lesson were a pre-made graphic organizer and pre-determined groups. Both of these things help with classroom management during this assignment because students do not waste time actually creating the graphic organizer and they are placed in groups made by the teacher that promote the greatest level of productivity. If I were to do anything differently, I would spend more time explaining each of the smaller bubble topics so that students have a better idea of what to search for. Additionally, I would provide a teacher definition of each word so students have an idea of what they are looking for rather than blindly researching information about their given word. While there were some small flaws and challenges in this lesson, I think it was well-planned and effective overall. It is a lesson I will definitely consider using in my own classroom in the future.
